Dear Amy, One of my fondest memories of my Hedgebrook residency was walking and talking with you, one glorious fall day in 2014, about the challenge and joy of our kids — how they changed how we viewed the world, and informed both our work… Still feels like yesterday. Thank you for all you have done and all the lives you’ve touched. Wishing you every possible good and wonderful thing, personally and professionally, now and always. Here’s to wonderful new chapters, as your story continues.

Amy…. Sad for us and happy for you, as I’m sure you’re going on to something amazing (just like yourself!). I’ll raise a glass to you Friday, for sure. And many more to (and perhaps with) you in the future. Much love and good wishes as you venture forth into that wondrous future.

Feeling heartbroken and yet blessed to have known you at Hedgebrook, and to have benefited from your partnership with the great Lady herself. Thank you for your years of compassionate service, Amy. You will be missed!

    Oh, dear Amy!

Thank you for 17 years of brilliance!! Hedgebrook would not what it is, and very likely would not BE, if it weren’t for you.

    A thousand thank yous!!!

Hi Amy, I know you’ll have years and years of creative adventures, so congratulations on this next transition. And thank you for taking such good care of Hedgebrook–a wonderful place. I still remember my little cabin, and picking blackberries, and getting to know Chana Bloch, and all the beauty and serenity there.

    Dear Amy,
Somehow being at Hedgebrook, after 18 months of being a nomad and as the final stop in a series of residencies before I settled down into a new life, new phase, there was this unexpected transformation and I left a different person than when I arrived–I had stripped down to my essence, scared to write as the entire world seemed new and loomed dangerously. I didn’t know what lay ahead, but I said to you, I don’t know what’s happening, I’m just staring very intently at ants and trees and all of nature right now and I’m lost and unsure. You took me for a walk around the grounds, you showed me the spot where the trees have all intersected with their roots above ground–a way of being more often under soil and unexposed–and you basically said, just be exactly where you are, it’s okay and you don’t know what’s coming down the road. I felt such relief and gratefulness at the permission to be completely lost in the midst of this paradise of a work place, surrounded by beautiful artists, all of us holding picnic baskets of chard at one moment or another. The road did open up, and there were more bumps and chasms to weather, but it has allowed me to lead with vulnerability and to believe that the process of making art is at least as valuable as the words on the page. I wish you blessings and bumps on your path and I thank you from the bottom of my feet for being a balm along my path. xWinter

Amy, I’ve watched in amazement how much Hedgebrook has grown under your leadership. There are too many examples to highlight. Certainly, the huge increase in annual applications is an indication in how Hedgebrook has become nationally and internationally recognized! I love how you’ve reached out to alumnae groups in various geographic regions and brought literary luminaries to support Hedgebrook’s mission and serve on its creative board. Thank you for your time and energy over the past years. Wishing you all the best and much love in creating this new chapter in your life! BRAVA!!
