BIO: Jane Barr is a first-generation African American whose family immigrated from Ghana. A screenwriter and director, she earned her MFA in Film & Television from the Savannah College of Art & Design. Jane’s screenplay, 12 Days, was a second-rounder at both Sundance 2017 and the Academy Nicholl Fellowship 2017. Her feature screenplay, Colony I, was a second-rounder at Sundance 2018 and 2020. Jane was chosen as a fellow for the Hedgebrook Screenwriting Lab 2019 and the Athena Virtual Screenwriting Lab 2020. Her feature script, African Dogs Don't Choke was a finalist for the Shore Scripts Feature contest 2020, and her TV pilot, An American Tale, was the Grand Prize Winner of the BlueCat Screenwriting Contest 2020. Jane was chosen as an Essence/Women in Film Pathmaker 2021 and she was recently chosen as one of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation/Athena Film Festival 2022 Women in Science Development Fund winners. Jane is currently developing a feature with Lionsgate and a documentary with One Story Up productions. Jane Barr is repped by Management 360 & UTA.
