Kerry Holland

Inspiration & Stewardship Coordinator

Kerry is a former geologist and teacher who followed a meandering path to the intersection of big picture ideals and nitty gritty details that define her work as Hedgebrook’s Gifts Administrator. Kerry’s feminist core was activated as an undergraduate at Vassar College (already co-ed but still one of the Seven Sisters at heart). She obtained degrees in geology at Vassar and the Colorado School of Mines, studying the stark, orderly beauty of mineralogy and geochemistry in a male-dominated academic culture. As a high school teacher, she sought to share the rationality and beauty of science and the natural world while providing a strong female role model to the teenage girls in her classes. Years later, she finds herself doing the same thing for her son as she balances her dedication to women’s issues with her science-mind and concern for the environment. In the spaces between work and motherhood, Kerry volunteers for Sound Water Stewards citizen science efforts, gardens with limited success, plays marimba, and goes whitewater rafting whenever she gets the chance.
