BIO: Lawan Jirasuradej was born and lives in Krungthep (aka Bangkok), Thailand. She is recipient of Fulbright Scholarship and several international film grants including artist residencies from the United States. Her award-winning films include MAMA WAHUNZI and la vida: the strength within. Her experience in television reporting and educational video production sparked her interest in documentary. In recent years she has turned to documentary in writing and is finishing a biography of a Thai boy educated in China during the beginning of Communist rule. As part of Womanifesto – international art exchange, her video installation, Hands in the Coop, continues to reincarnate in art
spaces recently at Documenta Fifteen.
