Hedgebrook Voices Series

The Hedgebrook Voices series features the work of Hedgebrook alumnae at venues throughout Seattle and the Puget Sound, raising awareness of the power of words and women’s voices. With support from 4Culture, Hedgebrook works to bring this series to new and increasingly diverse audiences. The variety of locations and formats makes it possible for readers, audiences and authors to connect in unexpected ways.

Voices is produced in collaboration with a wide array of community partners: Seattle Arts & Lectures, ACT Theatre, Town Hall, Elliott Bay Book Company, Third Place Books, as well as art galleries, community centers, cafés, restaurants, businesses, retail spaces, Seattle Public Library branches, bookstores and hospitals. Many of our Hedgebrook Voices events are alumnae-led collaborations, encouraging women writers to envision and create the opportunities they want to see. Offered in a variety of formats depending on the interests of the participating artists and community, the series is accessible to diverse audiences through targeted outreach by Hedgebrook and our collaborators. Most events are free of charge or moderately priced, with options for reduced ticket rates for students, youth, seniors, or community members.

Though primarily Seattle-based, Hedgebrook Voices events also take place at the Hedgebrook retreat and the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA), Village Books in Bellingham, and other community organizations interested in hosting women writers.
