We respect your privacy, and Hedgebrook is committed to protecting the privacy of personal information collected from the Hedgebrook website (Site). We created this privacy statement to explain:

  • how you can correct any inaccuracies regarding your personal information.

The practices described in this privacy statement only apply to information collected through our Hedgebrook Site and does not necessarily reflect our practices for information gathered offline.

Information Collected, Use & Disclosure

We use the personal information you provide to our Site for the purpose of fulfilling the following:

  • provide you with information about our women writers program, or events,

  • process applications for our writing programs,

  • process orders for Hedgebrook souvenirs or publications,

  • send donor confirmations,

  • improve our content, and

  • provide customer service.

Hedgebrook will not sell or rent your contact information with commercial businesses. We may share your personal information with third parties, including volunteers, providing certain functions for our programs, events, and communications on our behalf. We may use personal information for our own fundraising and marketing efforts, or share it with event co-producers. We may combine personal information you have provided us to our Site with information we already have on file from other sources, as well as with information that is publicly available or that is provided to us by third parties.

Promotional Communications

Hedgebrook may use personal information collected from the Site to contact you about our programs, events, special announcements or new Site features and updates. You may opt out of receiving such promotional communications by sending your name and email address to: hedgebrook@hedgebrook.org.

Emails

When you email Hedgebrook, we may save your message and email address to respond to your questions, or to improve our products and services. Any ideas, suggestions, business information, or other information included in your email to us will be treated as non-confidential and non-proprietary.

Newsletters & Electronic Invites or Registration

Hedgebrook provides a free monthly newsletter, electronic invites, and event registration forms to keep you updated about our programs and events. We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone. We may share your email information with others who work with us to respond to your request for information or services. You may opt out of receiving future email messages, newsletters, and invites from us at any time by selecting the “unsubscribe” text link provided at the bottom of email communications.

Social Media and Public Communications

Certain public areas, such as blogs, Facebook, Twitter, comments, message boards, may require you to provide an email to participate. Hedgebrook will not share these email addresses with third parties unless required to provide you with information or services you requested.Please remember that any information you share in the body of your message will become public and therefore this privacy statement will not apply to information you choose to make public. We recommend you do not post any personal information you expect to be kept private.

Online Surveys

Hedgebrook may deploy surveys online to help us understand our audience. We may publish the results of our surveys or share the results with other parties, however, we do not disclose personal information that you choose to provide when you participate in these surveys.

Anonymous Information; Traffic Data

Hedgebrook also collects automatically “anonymous information” about your interaction with the Site, which is information that does not identify you individually. This information is collected through “traffic data” and may involve the use of Cookies, IP addresses or other numeric codes used to identify a computer or device. We also collect information about user traffic patterns and site usage via Google Analytics. This information is used to analyze and improve our Site.

Hedgebrook may place Internet “cookies” on visitor’s hard drives. Cookies save data about individuals that visit our Site, such as your name, password, user-name, screen preferences, webpages viewed, and clicks by individuals. This allows our Site to recognize repeat visitors which may result in customized experiences. You may decline cookies, if any, by using the appropriate feature in your Web client software, if available. Use of this feature, however, may impair your use of certain features on our Site.

Outside Vendors

Hedgebrook may contract with third- party vendors to perform certain services on Hedgebrook’s behalf, such as email sign-up and distribution, registration, credit card processing, customer service, fundraising, etc.   These entities may have access to personal information to perform their services. Hedgebrook requires its vendors to maintain the confidentiality and security of personal information, including information collected on Hedgebrook’s behalf through the use of cookies, and prohibits vendors from using, selling, distributing, or altering this data in any manner not authorized by Hedgebrook.

Links to Third Parties

The Site may contain links to other websites operated by third parties. The practices described in this privacy statement do not apply to information gathered through these other websites. These other websites may also send their own cookies to you, collect your data, or solicit your personal information. Hedgebrook is not responsible for the actions and privacy policies of third parties and other websites. We encourage you to be aware when you leave the Site, and to read the privacy statement of each website you visit.

Security

Personal information collected by Hedgebrook is stored in secure operating environments that are not available to the public. Only those employees who need to access your personal information to do their jobs are permitted access. While we make reasonable efforts to protect your personal information once we receive it, no transmission of data over the Internet or any other public network can be 100% secure. Thus, Hedgebrook cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you send to us or the information we send to you from our Site.

Hedgebrook may use or disclose personal information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (i) conform to applicable law or comply with legal process served on us or the Hedgebrook website, (ii) protect and defend our rights or property, the Site or our users, and (iii) act under emergency circumstances to protect the personal safety of us, our affiliates, agents, the users of the Site or the public.

Online Purchases & Applications

Personal information sent to us for online purchases, registration, or applications to our programs will be protected in accordance with the laws of the United States, which may not be the same level of protection legally required in other jurisdictions.

Governing Law & Jurisdiction

By using this Site, you agree that the laws of Washington state shall govern in any and all disputes, without regard to its conflict of laws principles, including privacy or defamation issues or other concerns. Further, you agree that the courts of King County, Washington will have jurisdiction over all matters arising out of related to the use of the Site.
