Radical Craft Retreats
Radical Craft Retreats combine Hedgebrook's retreat experience with the unique opportunity to study with an experienced and celebrated instructor. Radical Craft Retreats can be in person at Hedgebrook on Whidbey Island, virtual in your own sanctuary, or international. Participation in each class is limited, to ensure individual attention, and create an intimate, supportive writing community.

Adventures in Overwhelm:
A Creative Non-Fiction Workshop
with Claire Dederer
June 22-26, 2024
This retreat will offer a combination of workshop
and generative work.
Description:
Adventures in Overwhelm: A Creative Non-Fiction Workshop
Writing from life can be messy, complex and, yes, overwhelming. Where to start? What to include? This weeklong workshop will explore ways to approach, generate, and structure memoir and other creative non-fiction. We'll be reading from your work as we delve into discussions about voice, subject matter, plot, and ethics--and I'll be offering generative exercises as well. I hope you'll come away from this week energized, supported, and filled with new ideas about how to go about the work of writing.

Fall Radical Craft Retreat

November 7-11, 2024
More details and application coming soon.
We offer a variety of classes to suit writers at different levels of experience and phases in the writing process. Some are generative, designed to inspire new projects or breakthroughs in your process, while others focus on craft or developing a project already underway. Over the course of 5 days, instructors will give generously of their time: leading a series of writing workshops, talks on craft and constructive feedback sessions, and a 1:1 with each writer. We encourage writers to set aside and enjoy time in retreat to write and rejuvenate, whether your retreat is virtual or in-person.
Hedgebrook is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and proceeds from our Radical Craft Retreats support Hedgebrook’s mission and programs.
