From the Farmhouse Table: June 2024

Summertime at Hedgebrook is always beautiful and right on time. There’s a quality to the days that is anticipatory – we are deep in the planning and preparation for a wonderful bevy of events this fall, and in a few weeks we’ll celebrate our Open House on the land - but the days also slow down and sprawl out, long and languid like the late evening sunsets. Summer brings a pause in hosting writers, and a kind of recalibration for our team and the land. This time finds us laying the groundwork for the innovations we have planned for 2025.

Our writer-in-residence applications close next week, but the new opportunity for women-identified writers to apply and schedule a partially-subsidized Mother Tree residency is just getting underway! And always, we’re partnering with our alumnae to dream into new offerings and public events.

I hope you’ve already marked your calendars to join us at the kickoff public event for Hedgebrook’s Writers Conference on Thursday, September 19th! Great Minds: On Ghosts, Ancestors, & the Nostalgia Machine brings our three brilliant alumnae instructors into conversation with our larger community – not only women-identified writers but all the readers, thinkers, and dreamers who appreciate the importance of women’s voices. We know wonderful things emerge from stimulating conversations over delicious food!
